Thailand to buy “Favipiravir” drug patent for domestic production

Thai government is working on buying the “Favipiravir” drug patent in order to stabilize domestic demands.
During a meeting of the cabinet, Minister of Public Health and Deputy Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul informed the members that Thai Government Pharmaceutical Organization is negotiating for “Favipiravir” drug patent with a foreign organization who holds the patent in order to produce for domestic demands.
Meanwhile, the Favipiravir imported from Japan has already been distributed to all hospitals.
At the same time, private hospitals can also import the medicine without any import barriers.
In addition, PM Prayut Chan-O-Cha stressed that it is necessary to have most vaccination doses from all qualified producers. In order to distribute the vaccines to all citizens, all medical facilities including private hospitals will also be part of the distribution.
