We are delighted to open the 2026 Contemporary World Film Series at TK Park with a much- talked-about film from Nepal.
This ensemble comedy-drama features some of the leading artists of Nepali cinema and is produced by one of the country’s most renowned production houses. Pant Productions, led by thespian Santosh Pant, an iconic actor and director in the Nepali film industry, has earned widespread acclaim.
Santosh Pant has acted in more than 50 films. His television serial Hijo Aja Ka Kura was phenomenally popular and aired for 18 years. It has now been adapted into a feature film, directed by his son, Sakar Pant. Both father and son also star in the film.
Sakar Pant did film studies in Australia. He has screened the film there, as well as in other countries, and has been deeply moved by audience reactions.
The movie is a vibrant drama, packed with punchy dialogue and lively action. It centers on four families facing various domestic challenges, including the realities of having children living abroad. The Nepali dream overseas is contrasted with life in the homeland, capturing both its highs and lows. Themes such as finding partners, arranged marriage, and family life are explored with humor and honesty. The song sequences add to the entertainment value of the film.
What the Press Said:
myRepublica: ‘ Cinema can be a catalyst in creating positive change in society.’
The Rising Nepal: ‘ The film explores various dimensions of family relationships.’
The screening of Hijo Aja Ka Kura is supported by the Embassy of Nepal, who will host a Reception after the screening.
