Korean Cultural Center Launches Immersive Film Production Design Exhibition in Bangkok

The Korean Cultural Center in Thailand, in collaboration with the Korean Film Archive, has inaugurated a captivating new exhibition titled Production Design: Scene Architects Build On-Screen Worlds, running from 1 July to 26 September 2025 at the Korean Cultural Center in Bangkok.

The opening ceremony welcomed around 50 distinguished guests from Thailand’s cultural and creative industries. Notable attendees included representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Thailand Creative Culture Agency (THACCA), Thai Media Fund, Bangkok Art and Culture Center, the Japan Foundation, and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand.

This exhibition showcases the remarkable work of Korea’s leading production designers, including:

  • Ryu Sung-hee, designer for Decision to Leave and The Handmaiden (Vulcan Prize, Cannes 2016)

  • Cho Hwa-sung, designer for Hansan: Rising Dragon

  • Han Ah-reum, known for Kill Boksoon and Kingmaker

Visitors will experience a rich display of storyboards, concept art, set designs, graphic work, 3D visualizations, and film clips, offering a unique behind-the-scenes look into the visual storytelling of Korean cinema.

In her remarks, Ms. Lee Sunju, Director of the Korean Cultural Center, highlighted the power of production design in elevating the global appeal of Korean films. She emphasized its contribution to Korea’s soft power and expressed hope that the exhibition would inspire growth in both Korean and Thai film industries while promoting cultural exchange.

As a special highlight, Ms. Lee announced a “Special Talk with the Director” event on 18 July 2025, featuring acclaimed production designer Ryu Sung-hee, known for her work on Netflix’s When Life Gives You Tangerines. The session will be open to Thai film professionals, students, and cinema enthusiasts.
