Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has made merit to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Her Royal Highness Princess Vibhavadi Rangsit.
On November 20, 2020 at 9:54AM, Her Royal Highness traveled to Wat Ratchabophit to make merit on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of HRH Princess Vibhavadi Rangsit with His Holiness Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatanana, the Supreme Patriarch, leading monks conducting the ceremony.
Her Royal Highness Princess Vibhavadi Rangsit was born Mom Chao Vibhavadi Rangsit to His Highness Prince Bidyalongkorn and Her Serene Highness Princess Princess Pornpimolpan Rajani (Voravarn) on November 20, 1920. She was the elder sister of His Serene Highness Prince Bhisadej Rajani.
In 1957, HRH joined the court of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, accompanying them to the provinces during visits to their subjects and abroad. She was particularly active in development projects in the southern region, accompaying physicians to provide medical treatment, providing career guidance and supporting handicrafts in line with the wishes of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. HRH also presented items to boost the morale of police, soldiers, reserves members and citizens. On February 16, 1977, while traveling to Wiangsra district of Surat Thani to meet with border patrol police who had been injured in a bombing incident, HRH’s helicopter was attacked by insurgents. The attack had fatal consequences.
Following the tragedy, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great bestowed the title of Her Royal Highness upon the late princess and named Vibhavadi Rangsit road in her honor. The people of Surat Thani observe the date of her passing each year on Vibhavadi Day and maintain a foundation in her name and honor.
