Europe’s Extreme Summer Heat Could Cost EU Economies €180 Billion

Extreme heat and wildfires could cost EU economies around €180 billion in 2026, equivalent to roughly 1% of GDP, according to Triodos Bank research. With EU growth previously expected at about 1.1%, climate-related losses from reduced productivity, agriculture and other disruptions could leave the bloc close to stagnation.
