Countdown events get go-ahead with COVID-19 measures

The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will allow organizers to hold countdown events this New Year’s Eve, provided that public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are in place. The authorities have also discussed the further relaxation of entry restrictions for tourists.
The National Security Council Secretary General Gen Natthapon Nakpanich, the Director of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration, revealed that the CCSA will be talking with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tomorrow about further relaxation of entry restrictions for tourists, which will include changes to the current visa arrangements for more convenience, while promoting confidence and safety of local Thai people.
He said celebratory events for this holiday season, including New Year’s Eve countdown events, will be allowed to take place, provided that the organizers implement public health measures against COVID-19, including face covering requirements, social distancing and frequent hand washing.
Gen Natthapon said the CCSA will be holding another meeting with the Ministry of Public Health in early January to discuss the new COVID-19 testing timeframe, in which testing will be conducted on the first, tenth and fourteenth day for better information on the infection, and to help alleviate concerns among the general public.
