Armed Forces Instructed to Prepare Assistance for Covid-19 Infections

The Royal Thai armed forces has been instructed to keep a close watch on the Omicron coronavirus situation and prepare medical staff and field hospitals for new COVID-19 patients.

According to Spokesperson for the Defence Ministry Kongcheep Tantravanich, Deputy Defence Minister Gen Chaicharn Changmongkol chaired a video conference meeting with officials from the Royal Thai Armed Forces, the Royal Thai Police, and the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) about the COVID-19 situation amid a spike in cases.

Gen Chaicharn reiterated the orders of Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha for all sides to remain vigilant, particularly officials near border areas who must prevent illegal workers and products from entering the country and assisting villagers fleeing the ongoing conflict in Myanmar.

The Prime Minister has emphasized the importance of monitoring the pandemic and assisting government officials in combating the spread of infection. The Royal Thai Armed Forces has established hospitals, field hospitals and screening centers. It is also ready to transform areas into Community isolation centers or additional field hospitals if necessary. Soldiers can transport patients to medical facilities while an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be established in Bangkok and other provinces to help manage the situation.

Meanwhile, officials are to help the Centre for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) in patrolling and monitoring local events and businesses that might pose a transmission risk and exercise legal rights if necessary. The Deputy Defence Minister also urged all sides to maintain strict preventive measures in order to avoid outbreaks while assisting local communities.
