Since the 2018 Supreme Court ruling legalized sports wagering, the industry has exploded across 38 states, generating billions in revenue through platforms like FanDuel and DraftKings. Yet as leagues profit through sponsorships and data deals, concerns about regulation and manipulation have deepened.
Prop bets—wagers on individual player performance—are central to the probe, raising fears of match-fixing and insider influence. Experts also warn of rising gambling addiction, fueled by nonstop ads and easy app access, particularly among young men.
