Songkhla Welcomes Diplomats from 21 Nations at Sadao Customs Checkpoint
Songkhla province hosted a high-profile delegation of diplomats from 21 countries, together with foreign media, for a visit to the Sadao customs checkpoint on September 30. The checkpoint serves as a key gateway for trade, investment, and tourism in southern Thailand, linking directly with Malaysia.
The delegation toured the checkpoint in Sadao district, where construction of a second customs facility is underway to further support cross-border travel, international logistics, and tourism. A new connecting road between Thailand and Malaysia is also expected to be completed by November, enhancing regional connectivity.
As one of Thailand’s most important land border crossings, Sadao plays a crucial role in southern economic growth. In fiscal 2025, trade through the checkpoint totaled 430.4 billion baht, with exports at 228.8 billion baht and imports at 201.6 billion baht. From October 2023 to August 2024, more than 5.4 million travelers passed through the crossing.
To mark the occasion, Songkhla’s private sector organized “Songkhla Business Night,” providing a platform for diplomats to network with local entrepreneurs. The event showcased Songkhla’s strengths in medical and wellness tourism through a video presentation, underscoring the province’s vision to position itself as an international health tourism hub.
