2026 CONTEMPORARY WORLD FILM SERIES CONTINUES, AT TK PARK !
Hungarian comedy Be My Dad will be screened at TK Park, centralwOrld, Bangkok on September 20, 2026.
Bangkok’s 2026 Contemporary World Film Series continues this September with the Hungarian comedy Be My Dad, a warm and thought-provoking story exploring family, imagination, creativity and unexpected parenthood.   The film will be screened at TK Park (Thailand Knowledge Park), centralwOrld, Bangkok, on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 4:00 PM.   The screening is supported by the Embassy of Hungary in Bangkok and the National Film Institute of Hungary.   Directed by Gabor Rohonyi and Csaba Vekes, the 1-hour-54-minute film follows the life of Barna Kesereu, a successful writer and former university professor who finds himself struggling with a serious creative crisis. His publisher gives him just 10 days to complete and deliver a new novel. But just as Barna faces the pressure of the approaching deadline, his life takes a completely unexpected turn.

An Unexpected Son Changes Everything

A scene from the Hungarian film Be My Dad.
Barna’s former girlfriend, Sara, suddenly arrives at his home accompanied by a seven-year-old boy named Samu. She tells Barna that Samu is his son. Sara then asks him to take care of the child for 10 days while she leaves on a work assignment, placing the fiercely independent and unconventional writer in a situation for which he is completely unprepared. What follows is an unexpected journey into fatherhood. Barna must suddenly deal with the everyday demands of looking after the mischievous young Samu while simultaneously trying to overcome his writer’s block and meet his publisher’s deadline. But the disruption gradually becomes something much more meaningful. Samu repeatedly asks Barna to tell him bedtime stories. Those seemingly simple requests begin to awaken something Barna had been struggling to rediscover: his imagination.
As their relationship develops, storytelling starts rekindling Barna’s creative spark and gradually changes the writer himself in ways he never expected.   Through humour and emotion, Be My Dad celebrates the transformative power of storytelling, imagination, family and second chances, while exploring how an unexpected relationship can completely alter the direction of a person’s life.
