Police investigations are actively proceeding to find and arrest the person responsible for the murder of a Swiss tourist found dead in Phuket while on holidays. Investigators are now gathering evidential information, while waiting for autopsy results.
The police have mobilized a specialized team of investigators from Bangkok and local pathologists to investigate the suspected murder of the Swiss tourist, including the autopsy.
The woman tourist entered Thailand on holidays under the Phuket sandbox scheme. She was found dead at Ton Aow Yon waterfall, believed to be murder.
The Royal Thai Police Commissioner General Pol Gen Suwat Jangyodsuk, yesterday flew into Phuket to oversee the investigations. Officers from the Central Investigation Bureau, the Crime Suppression Division, Provincial Police 8, Tourist Police Bureau, and the Immigration Bureau are all involved in the investigation.
The police chief said officers are now working around the clock until they can arrest a suspect. Searches have been undertaken at Ban Aow Yon community and the surrounding area to investigate suspicious persons.
As for the autopsy results, the Director of Vachira Phuket Hospital Dr Chalermpong Sukontapol, said today initial results have already been reported internally, but can’t yet be disclosed, as confirmation blood, secretions, and DNA tests must be performed by the police Institute of Forensic Medicine. The official autopsy report is expected to be released within 2-3 days.
At Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket where the deceased had been staying, a candlelight vigil was arranged yesterday evening, with candles, flowers, and prayers that were said for the soul of the deceased to rest in peace.
