More than 500 people (Thai, Indian and Expats) joined the brand new initiative Holi-Songkran Fiesta 2024 presented by Mittare Insurance and Sanjay Kuamr Media, organized by Thai-Indian Community on 7th April at the premises of India-Thai Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok. The majority of the participants were youngsters and they enjoyed a variety of international vegetarian food along with foam party, multicultural music, water splash and herbal colors. The word “Songkran”, literally means transformation or change. The term was borrowed from Makar Sankranti, the name of a Hindu harvest festival celebrated in India in January to mark the arrival of spring.
Songkran is more focused on purification and cleansing, while Holi celebrates the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil.
The people in Thailand recently celebrated Maha Songkran, World Water Festival 2024 during April 11–15 with the aim to highlight the status of Thai Songkran as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and the national soft power,
Additionally, Holi is celebrated with bright and colorful powders, while Songkran is widely known as “Thai New year” usually celebrated with plain water.
The purpose of this event is to connect the deep rooted cultural traditions of Holi and Songkran and promote cultural relations between India and Thailand. The event was widely supported by the prominent Thai and Indian business community as well as businesses and associations of the Indian diaspora in Thailand.
“This is the first time we have organized this unique fusion in Thai-Indian culture event in Bangkok. We will expand this event bigger and better next year as we have received very good response and feedback from the community.”, said Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Founder Thai-Indian Community.
We would like to convey our sincere thanks to everyone for joining us and supporting our activities wholeheartedly.
