Repatriation Mission Brings 269 Indians Home from Myanmar Scam Hubs

India Repatriates 269 Nationals from Myanmar Scam Centres via Thailand

In a major coordinated effort, India in Thailand (Embassy of India, Bangkok) and India in Thailand (Consulate General of India, Chiang Mai)—working closely with multiple Royal Thai Government agencies and the Tak Provincial administration—successfully facilitated the repatriation of 269 Indian nationals, including 11 women, through Mae Sot, Thailand.
Two special Indian Air Force (IAF) flights were deployed to bring them back safely.

These individuals were allegedly involved in scam-centre activities in Myawaddy, Myanmar, and were released following a recent crackdown on scam compounds by Myanmar authorities.

This mission forms part of the Government of India’s ongoing efforts to rescue and repatriate Indians trapped in fraudulent job networks and scam hubs across Southeast Asia. Indian Embassies in Thailand and Myanmar continue to work actively with local governments to identify, secure, and return affected citizens.

The Embassy has issued a strong advisory urging Indian nationals to:

  • Verify the credentials of foreign employers before accepting job offers abroad.

  • Check the legitimacy of recruiting agents and companies.

  • Avoid misusing Thailand’s visa-free entry, which is strictly for tourism and short business visits—not for employment.

Stay safe. Always verify before you travel or take up overseas work.
