India, the birthplace of Buddhism, continues to serve as a spiritual lighthouse for the world, nurturing and reinforcing its deep-rooted Buddhist legacy. Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation is witnessing a renewed global outreach rooted in the timeless values of peace, wisdom, and Dharma.
From international Buddhist conferences to cultural diplomacy with nations that share Buddhist heritage — such as Thailand, Sri Lanka, Japan, Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia, and Vietnam — India has been actively deepening spiritual and cultural bonds. The government’s consistent efforts in reviving Buddhist sites, promoting heritage tourism, and engaging in global dialogues have positioned India as a leader in soft power and cultural diplomacy.
In recent years, PM Modi’s visits to prominent Buddhist countries, participation in global spiritual events, and the launch of initiatives like the India-Mongolia Buddhist Scholarship and the revival of the Nalanda University have further highlighted India’s commitment to preserving and spreading Buddhist teachings.
“India is not only the land where Lord Buddha was born and attained enlightenment, but also the custodian of his message of non-violence and universal harmony,” said a senior official from the Ministry of External Affairs.
This resurgence of India’s Buddhist diplomacy aligns seamlessly with the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family — reinforcing India’s role as a bridge between civilizations through its spiritual and cultural ethos.
As the global interest in Buddhism continues to grow, India stands as the eternal flame bearer, guiding the world through the teachings of the Buddha — a journey of mindfulness, compassion, and inner peace.
