EXTRAVAGANZA SUKHUMVIT COUNTDOWN 2026: Elevating Sukhumvit to a Global Countdown Landmark

EM DISTRICT has joined forces with leading private-sector partners across the Sukhumvit area to present EXTRAVAGANZA SUKHUMVIT COUNTDOWN 2026, a landmark New Year’s Eve celebration designed to transform Sukhumvit Road into a world-class countdown destination.

As a next-generation commercial and entertainment hub encompassing Emporium, EmQuartier, and Emsphere, EM DISTRICT is collaborating with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and a broad alliance of major corporations spanning retail, hospitality, real estate, telecommunications, finance, entertainment, and food & beverage. Together, they are reinforcing Sukhumvit’s role as a powerful economic, commercial, and lifestyle nucleus at the heart of Bangkok.

Set for 31 December 2025, the event will deliver a spectacular countdown marked by a dazzling fireworks display across the Asoke–Phrom Phong–Thonglor corridor. The ambition is clear: to position Sukhumvit among the world’s premier New Year’s Eve landmarks.

Suphalak Ampuch, Chairperson of The Mall Group, Siam Paragon Retail, and EM District, emphasized that the initiative demonstrates the tangible strength of private-sector collaboration in driving economic momentum. Sukhumvit, she noted, is one of Bangkok’s highest-potential districts—an international tourism magnet with world-class malls, hotels, dining, and entertainment—making a mega-event at year-end a strategic catalyst for spending, circulation, and global visibility.

The celebration brings together more than 10 key Sukhumvit-area businesses, culminating in a never-before-seen highlight: countdown fireworks launched from skyscraper rooftops and along a 5-kilometer stretch of Sukhumvit Road. The five-minute-plus show will feature over 50,000 fireworks, illuminating the entire boulevard simultaneously.

Fireworks and synchronized light-and-sound effects will erupt from over ten buildings, including the three EM DISTRICT complexes, as well as prominent landmarks such as The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, Exchange Tower, Holiday Inn Sukhumvit 22, Bhiraj Tower, Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit 24, and others. Together, they will form a “universal symbol of celebration,” expressing the collective power of Sukhumvit as a Global Lifestyle Destination.

This collaboration builds on EM DISTRICT’s track record of nationally and internationally recognized events—from Chinese New Year celebrations featuring 3,000 panda ambassadors, the 50th anniversary of Thai–Chinese relations, Thailand’s first PRIDE parade, to the ceremonial parade welcoming Opal Suchata Chuangsri—all rooted in the philosophy of public–private cooperation to create urban phenomena with real economic and tourism impact.

Beyond the New Year’s Eve fireworks, EM DISTRICT has curated a full slate of festive activities throughout the final week of December. Highlights include Wonder of Christmas celebrations with choir performances, special showcases, Santa meet-and-greets, and immersive photo moments. Additional music events at EmQuartier will feature leading Thai and international artists and DJs, culminating in a vibrant Wonder Countdown on the night of 31 December.

In closing, Ms. Suphalak подчеркed that Sukhumvit is far more than a commercial strip—it is a citywide economic ecosystem linking business, tourism, culture, and people from around the world. EXTRAVAGANZA SUKHUMVIT COUNTDOWN 2026 stands not only as a New Year celebration, but as a blueprint for driving urban growth through a world-class event strategy, further elevating Bangkok’s stature as a top global tourism destination.

Supporting data from Sukhumvit Today underscores this momentum: despite the pandemic, the area welcomed around 2.5 million visitors in 2022, with projections rising to approximately 3 million by 2025—a testament to Sukhumvit’s enduring appeal to high-spending international travelers and its vital role in Thailand’s tourism-led economic recovery.
