Thailand’s MICE Ambitions on the Rise

Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikan Wattanachan highlighted that ICCA’s GlobeWatch Business Analytics reviewed over 11,000 international events in 2024, with Asia remaining the world’s second-largest MICE market after Europe.

Thailand hosted 158 international meetings, up from 143 in 2023, improving its global ranking to 25th and maintaining its 5th spot in Asia-Pacific and 1st in ASEAN.

Bangkok Leads the Charge

Bangkok accounted for 115 international conferences in 2024. Beyond its 7th global ranking, it placed 3rd in Asia-Pacific and 2nd in ASEAN. Event tech firm Cvent also named Bangkok the #2 Meeting Destination in Asia-Pacific for 2025, just behind Singapore.

These rankings are based on RFPs exceeding USD 18 billion, confirming Bangkok’s strong reputation and international appeal as a MICE hub.

13 Thai Cities Recognized for International Meetings

A record 13 Thai cities featured in ICCA’s 2024 global rankings, including:

  • Chiang Mai (12 events)

  • Pattaya (10)

  • Phuket (8)

  • Chonburi, Chiang Rai, Pathum Thani (2–3 each)

  • Hua Hin, Khon Kaen, Samui, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Pattani (1 each)

This decentralisation strategy reflects the government’s focus on expanding MICE beyond Bangkok, driving regional economic growth and opportunity.

MICE: A Key Economic Driver

In 2024, Thailand’s MICE sector attracted 25.35 million travellers, generating 148.34 billion baht in revenue, and contributing over 309 billion baht to the national economy—1.67% of GDP.

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) continues to drive this growth through five core strategies, including digital innovation and regional branding.

Future Outlook: Toward a Regional MICE Leadership

TCEB’s “3S Strategy”Stay Longer, Spend More, See You Again—is designed to increase visitor spending and retention. Thailand also aims to tap into BRICS markets for further growth.

In 2025, the goal is 34 million MICE visitors and 200 billion baht in revenue, with an ambition to become Asia’s leading MICE destination.

Sasikan reiterated the government’s support for enhancing secondary city capabilities to ensure sustainable, inclusive growth.

Conclusion: Bangkok’s Rise Marks a New Chapter

Bangkok’s entry into the global top 10 is more than symbolic—it reflects Thailand’s evolving role in global business tourism. With strong infrastructure, strategic initiatives, and growing regional participation, the nation is well on its way to becoming a true global MICE hub.
