The Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) held the first public forum on a three-kilometer stretch of the planned MRT Pink Line monorail network for commuters in Muang Thong Thani area.

Assistant MRTA Governor Sarot T.Suwan presided over the first public forum held as part of a study on the expansion of MRT Pink Line monorail, adding the three-kilometer Srirat – Muang Thong Thani route to the original network from Kae Rai to Minburi area.

The project, supervised by the MRTA and to be co-invested by private firms, will use monorail technology along the route from Chaeng Wattana road to Srirat Station and to Muang Thong Thani Lake, adding two more stations along the way.

The MRTA has designed the project to minimize land grabs, while the construction cost was estimated at an average of one billion baht per kilometer, which will be absorbed by a private firm. The extension is now planned to be opened not long after the opening of MRT Pink Link in 2021. Initial ridership on the Pink Line is expected at 100,000 passengers daily, while the stretch is expected to serve 10,000 passengers daily.

The MRTA will hold another public forum in July, and propose the project to the cabinet by mid-2019.
