WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the comment after visiting a kidney failure patient in the care of the public system. Sixty-nine-year-old Chan Jan-urai is suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, and terminal kidney failure. He started dialysis treatment on September 9th, 2017. Chan also receives regular visits from nurses, physical therapists and social workers every other week and is reportedly able to perform daily tasks normally.
The WHO Director-General expressed his desire for the Kingdom’s universal healthcare coverage scheme to be adopted by other nations, saying the initiative benefits patients by significantly reducing the cost of the medical treatments. He also applauded Thailand for supporting the program.
