The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has deployed officials and water trucks to mitigate air pollution in Bang Na district.

Water trucks and BMA personnel cleaned Sanphawut road in the district and sprayed the area with water, in order to reduce the amount of particulate matter to below 2.5 micrometers in diameter.

According to Wallaya Wattanarat, the Director of the Environmental Office of the BMA, Bang Na is one of the districts being severely affected by air pollution. The two main contributing factors to the smog problem are factories and heavy goods vehicles.

Director Wallaya instructed officials to repeat the operation 4-5 times a week until the situation improves. A similar campaign has been launched in Pathumwan, Ratchathewi, Wang Thonglang and Thonburi districts.

She said the BMA is raising environmental awareness among construction contractors and motorists. As for a long-term solution, a campaign to increase the green areas will be discussed.
