Gov’t adds 30,000 jobs for disabled people, promoting legal compliance among employers

The government has generated up to 30,000 employments to persons with disabilities, successfully promoting the employment of the disabled among employers.

The Government Spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd has revealed 34,601 persons with disabilities have been employed through government support, both in the private and government sectors. The government has urged employers to improve the livelihood of disabled people, in accordance to several articles of the nation’s law.

Companies employing person with disabilities or providing assistance to them will be eligible for a tax reduction scheme, while companies not employing persons with disabilities will have to provide financial support to the Fund for Persons with Disabilities.

11,443 companies have participated by employing the needy, or roughly 97.07 percent of all companies with more than 100 employees. The government will also be supporting the occupational seminars of persons with disabilities by providing 50,000 baht to 120 groups of disabled persons. The prerequisite for government support states that there must be 20 members or more, participants must have proceeded the occupation for no less than 3 months, and the gathering must have a concrete working plan.

The government spokesman adds that the Prime Minister has urged the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to develop a database for persons with disabilities for the purpose of occupational development, and reminds employers to be open minded about hiring persons with disabilities, as they have to potential to be an important asset to the company.

The government will continue providing assistance to employers who are employing disabled employees, as well as the disabled themselves who may face difficulties in their occupation.
