Prime Minister Prayut will open Thailand Rice Convention 2015 and give a special talk on May 19

The Commerce Ministry is to hold Thailand Rice Convention 2015, a major international seminar on rice, during 19-21 May 2015 at IMPACT Arena, Muang Thong Thani Complex.

Director-General of the International Trade Promotion Department Duangporn Rodphaya said the seminar is held under the concept: “Think Rice Think Thailand…Serving the Best Quality Rice to the World”, with the objective to show Thailand’s leading roles as the world’s No.1 rice producer and exporter of high quality rice. It is part of the Thai government’s action plan to expand rice market in foreign countries.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will preside over the opening ceremony and be a guest speaker at the convention which will be attended by over five hundred business representatives from upstream, midstream and downstream industries related to rice. There will also be representatives from buyer countries such as China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. Government officials, experts, academics, and rice farmers from 75 provinces will also attend the event.

Apart from the seminar, the convention features exhibitions on rice, one of which is specially held in honor of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on the occasioin of her 60th birthday anniversary. The exhibition will display royal initiatives in applying the King’s sufficiency economy philosophy to promote the quality of life of farmers. Among the Princess’s initiatives are the Community Seeds Bank, promotion of rice-based handicrafts, and Kasornkasivit Buffalo School.

Another exhibition on “Amazing Thai Rice from Four Regions” provides information about high quality rice supply chain in order to promote Thai rice brand and build networks of farmers in all regions.
