For the first time ever, Google’s Chrome web-browser has overtaken Microsoft’s Internet Explorer to become the most used browser worldwide over an entire week. Although Chrome has been overtaking IE for quite some time on weekends, this is for the first time that it has overtaken it for an entire week. This happened for the week of May 14th-20th, as recorded by popular web analytics site StatCounter.
Asia and South America seem to contribute most to the Chrome traffic share, while Internet Explorer and Firefox are dominant in North America and Europe respectively. Coming to the country specific numbers, Chrome continues to grab the first spot in India with around 8pc lead over Mozilla’s Firefox. On the other hand, Internet Explorer rules Japan, China and South Korea with more than 50pc of the traffic share.
