Thai-Lao-Vietnamese delegates jointly opened Songkran festival along Mekong

Delegates from Thailand, Laos and Vietnam have joined in a ceremony to launch the annual Songkran festival along the Mekong River.

Mukdahan Governor Charnwit Wasayangkul, on Friday, was joined by delegates from Savannakhet Province of Laos and Quang Tri Province of Vietnam in an official opening of the annual Songkran festival for the 3 neighboring countries.

The opening event saw the floral floats and the parade of sacred Buddha statues along the main street of Mukdahan before all delegates and the public were invited to take part in the bathing ceremony of all the Buddha statues.

In addition, Mr. Charnwit also led Lao and Vietnamese delegates to offer presents to more than 2,000 senior citizens as April 13th is also the Day of the Elderly in Thailand.

The celebrations went on into the evening of Friday, during which a special food festival, featuring Thai and Indochine cuisines, music showcases and an international Songkran Beauty Pageant was held.
