MFA discusses with private sector preparations for World Economic Forum on East Asia 2012

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today discussed with the private sector and relevant ministries preparations and extra activities for the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2012 Thailand is hosting at the end of May.

According to Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, the WEF on East Asia will give Thai businessmen who are not members of the Forum to participate in the meeting and exchange opinions with business counterparts from within and outside the region. The WEF, Mr. Surapong said, will promote greater chance of trade and investment expansion within the region.

He added that Thailand is considering a plan to organize a tourism exhibition along with the 3-day event. It is expected that about 24 million foreign tourists will visit Thailand this year, an increase of 4 million people from last year.

The World Economic Forum on East Asia 2012 will be held on May 30th through June 1st at Shangri-La hotel in Bangkok. Representatives from the Thai private sector participating in today’s meeting are from the Federation of Thai Industries, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand.
