As the prices of roses have increased inordinately during the period leading up to Valentine’s Day, many lovers have turned to buying Chrysanthemums for their loved given they are much cheaper. This is a boon for Thai Chrysanthemum farmers, who rush to pick the flowers for sale to their customers.
After orders for Chrysanthemums have jumped dramatically during the love festival, farmers in Yasothon province have been collecting the full-grown flowers to be distributed to their customers in the markets.
Chrysanthemum farmers, who normally pick around 20-30 kilograms of the flowers each day, are filling orders of around 200 kilograms of the flowers each day during Valentine’s. The price now is around 100 baht per kilogram.
Meanwhile, rose prices are reportedly the highest ever in Satun province; the rise is due to the effects of last year’s floods and the changing climates. A pack of 50 red roses is now sold for 450 baht, more than twice as much as the 200 baht it sells for normally. A pack of white roses has also increased from 300 baht to 650 baht each.
