The Commerce Ministry has insisted to keep the export target for this year at 15%, unless there are promising signs in the second quarter of this year.
Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom said on Friday that the ministry will maintain this year’s export growth target of 15% for the time being.
Mr. Boonsong, however, noted that the growth target can be adjusted after the second quarter, if any positive signs can be detected.
In addition, all Thai trade promotion offices and commercial attaches around the world have been instructed to help find new markets for local farm products, while initiating more aggressive and integrated approaches to make Thai exports more successful in the world market.
The Commerce Minister went on to say that, for 2012, more focus will be given to the ASEAN market and countries that have signed a free trade agreement with Thailand, particularly the US, where exports have dropped significantly.
