The Cooperative Promotion Department (CPD) is urging all Thailand’s cooperatives to prepare themselves for higher level of competitiveness in the next three year when the ASEAN Community is established.
Mr. Jitaragon Sampradist, CPD’s Deputy General has revealed that the AEC will transform the ASEAN into a region with free movement of goods, services, labor, and capital. This movement will result in higher level of trade competitiveness especially in the ASEAN region in which some countries have similar products. Therefore, agricultural cooperatives have to be prepared for the upcoming integration in the next three years. They have to be alert and get themselves ready from now on. An emphasis will be placed raising the standard of goods and services to meet the demand of the ASEAN members.
Although Thailand’s products are acceptable in the ASEAN market in terms of standard thanks to its cooperative system which has long been in existence for long time, as well as to its being the third strongest in Asia, following China and South Korea, the nation’s cooperatives and agricultural groups must be ready in all aspects to reduce risks. They must also take their advantages and disadvantages into consideration after the establishment of the AEC in 2015. Currently, the CPD is focusing on giving information on preparing for the economic integration to cooperative’s representatives constantly.
