The Government Public Relations Department (PRD) will establish ASEAN information centers in all Public Relation Regional Offices across Thailand in preparation for the realization of the ASEAN Community by 2015.
The establishment project will create better understanding and raise public awareness of the ASEAN Community.
PRD operates eight Public Relations Offices, Region 1-8, which are located in Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok, Surat Thani, Songkhla, Chanthaburi, and Kanchanaburi.
According to PRD Director-General Teerapong Sodasri, apart from placing emphasis on public relations campaigns to provide knowledge and understanding about the ASEAN Community, the ASEAN information centers will promote cooperation between ASEAN member countries, as well.
Mr. Teerapong said that the ASEAN policy of PRD would focus on proactive public relations work to strengthen relationship between member countries and to enhance cooperation with other ASEAN-related organizations, both inside and outside Thailand.
For instance, 54 ASEAN Study Centers under the Ministry of Education are among the agencies that are working closely with PRD to help move Thailand forward toward the ASEAN Community in the next four years.
In Bangkok, the PRD Foreign Office will serve as the ASEAN Information Center for the central administration, networking with ASEAN information centers in the eight Public Relations Regional Offices, which form part of the PRD regional administration.
