Govt chooses to save Ayutthaya industrial park to avoid massive loss

The government has decided to let flood water paralyze an Asian Highway section in Ayutthaya province in order to save the nearby industrial zone from massive loss.

Being on the horns of a dilemma over what to do about flood-torn Ayutthaya, Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi decided in the last minute to opt for the Rojana industrial park over the Asian Highway. He revealed that damage to the park would result in widespread economic repercussions.

The minister explained that many factories in the Rojana industrial park are major suppliers of raw materials of the Map Ta Phut industrial estate. If the Rojana industrial park is flooded, tens of thousands of staff will be forced to stop working. Damage to the industrial sector could cost hundreds of billions of THB.

Plodprasop added that the government would also save the industrial park in Rangsit area on the skirts of Bangkok from inundation.
