Thailand to have more green areas to reduce the impact of global warming

Environment and Natural Resources Minister Mr. Suwit Khunkitti has said the world community is now trying to save the environment to reduce the impact of global warming.

Mr. Suwit said for the marking of the World Environment Day in the Netherlands this year, an international conference concerning the protection of the natural environment was being held to raise the awareness of how global warming impact human race.

In Thailand, there is only 33% of forest left, related agencies are trying to stop the encroachment and increase the green area by 7% more, Mr.Suwit said. According to global rules, each country is obligated to have at least 19% of preserved forest. However Thailand has only 18%. Mr. Suwit said Thailand would increase preserved areas with consultations with local residents.
