Red and Purple Lines subway train service to be completed in 10 years

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the Purple and Red Lines subway trains will be completed within 10 years as expected while the Cabinet is due to consider a budget for the lines this Tuesday.

According to Permanent Secretary for Transport Suphot Saplom, the Purple Line will link Bang Yai and Bang Sue before it is built to connect the Red Line which will connect Bang Sue, Taling Chan and Bang Phai maintenance center.

The construction for the Red Line has already begun since January 2009, covering 15 kilometers. The Purple Line will be 23 kilometers in length and is expected to be in full service in December of 2014. However, it is understood that to complete the entire rail route will take approximately 10 years from now.
