The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a warning for thunderstorms expected to strike 48 provinces across Thailand from 19 to 20 April 2011.
According to the DDPM, 48 provinces in the northern, northeastern, central and eastern region have been declared risky to powerful thunderstorms. Residents are warned that the severe weather is likely to bring damage to property, agricultural produce, and even their life.
Villagers residing in the mentioned areas are asked to monitor daily weather forecasts very closely and to make sure their own accommodations are in good condition.
Residents are also advised against staying under big trees or near advertising billboards and electric poles during heavy rainfalls as they might be collapsed.
All officials at each provincial DDPM office have been instructed to arrange special monitoring teams and prepare necessary tools in order to aid victims in time. Affected people may request assistance via emergency call at 1784 around the clock.
